Alternative Sonic Screwdriver by Daigohji Alternative Sonic Screwdriver by Daigohji
This is an original design of the Sonic Screwdriver, the Doctor's ubiquitous gadget for getting in and out of trouble. The design concept I set myself was to match it to the secondary TARDIS control room that the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) used for a few stories. This meant working wood into the construction, so I went for a bronze and wood steampunk look.

I wanted this model to be fully operable with one hand, so the waveform controls are on the top and the activation trigger is on the bottom. The labelled controls are the default configuration. The function of each control can be customised by holding the trigger while the safety switch is on, then clicking in the other controls to cycle them to the desired function. The screwdriver's internal power cell can be recharged by plugging it into the TARDIS control console.

It also comes with a three month parts and labour warranty.

What’s the difference between the amplitude and wavelength sliders?

I am not one to nit pick but i must say due to my knowledge of time lord artifacts, that this wouldnt work. The doctor would be spending too much time dealing with all the slides and dials. The sonic screwdriver works with a telepathic connection. Just think of what you want. Point, click, bzzzz. No slides or dials or safety needed. STILL a cool design. Much like a light saber though.

Maybe it’s made for those who lack sufficient powers of concentration to operate a psychic interface.  Anyhow, the Doctor used to fiddle with his sonic screwdriver from time to time, even if the setting controls were more integrated into the design and thus less noticeable; it’s only with the Eleventh that we see the advent of a proper “point-and-think”-style psychic interface.

While cool, it reminds me a bit too much of Darth Sidious' lightsabre! :D

One of these could very well exist in the TARDIS. It can make the sonic screwdrivers, and they come equipped with the things (the Doctor uses customized and heavily modified ones), so somewhere in the TARDIS there could be this model, or it could be created if the Doctor desired.

I like it. I think it's cool, but I think it looks too much like a lightsaber. Still a pretty awesome drawing

I should have shown a front end view, since the side view doesn't give a clear impression of the emitter end. It looks like a miniature radar dish recessed into the tip, but it's not visible from the side view.

I'm sure some settings could produce "good vibrations." Just be sure to disinfect it when you're finished.
